Q.) Hi- my name is Julia Marvel. How did you come up with the name for your band??

A) Dear Julia
How did we get our name? From you, of course! Well, that's not true, but feel free to tell your friends that, especially once we've "made it."

So, here goes. It was not long ago that we were reading a Sunday times, particularly an extensive article on a young protogee of classical cellist David Darling. We recall a sublimely flaky croissant and a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice on a smallish, sunlit table just to our left. In the article, this young student (and we forget her name, regrettably) was at one point alluded to as a "Juliard marvel." And for us, on the verge of naming our new group "Purple Clam Club," well this was both a godsend, and a revelation, as the name doubled as a self-effacing dig at our relative lack of acumen at our instruments, you know, we're "not exactly Juliard musicians!" (well, Martin's a pretty kick-ass guitarist.)

So, we ran The Juliard Marvels up the old flagpole for a show or two to see who bit. And, while "Marv Nation" appreciated the sentiment, they found it didn't exactly sing when spoken, somewhat of a mouthful. Over the dependable passage of time, "The" fell away like meat from the bone in exceptional pit beef, and "Juliard", a mouthful-of-marbles term even on its own, was truncated to Julia. Julia Marvel was the result, and it just kinda, you know, stuck.

So, saying "our parents", while in character, would be a cop-out answer on our part. And besides, that's probably your story.

Take Care, Julia Marvel
